When I Think of Child Development…

As our last week of class comes to an end, a few of my favorite quotes come to mind when thinking of child development and its importance. As a closing note, I would like to express my deepest thanks to all of my colleagues that have gone on this journey with me. I am so thankful to experience this educational journey with you all and hope that we can continue to do this together throughout this entire program. For those of you who have been with me from the beginning, can you believe that we have completed our second course? It won’t be long now until we have our degrees under our belts. For those of you who I have just met through this class, it was truly a pleasure. Everyone’s comments and feedback has been well received and appreciated. Good luck to all of you!

"No one has yet fully realized the wealth of sympathy, kindness and generosity hidden in the soul of a child. The effort of every true education should be to unlock that treasure." ~ Emma Goldman, author

“You are worried about seeing him spend his early years in doing nothing.  What!  Is it nothing to be happy?  Nothing to skip, play, and run around all day long?  Never in his life will he be so busy again.”  ~Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Emile, 1762
“If our American way of life fails the child, it fails us all.”  ~Pearl S. Buck

  1. I appreciate your three chosen quotes. The first one includes emotions, the second one the importance of play, and the third one, the culture we live in. Wonderful quotes. Thanks for sharing them.

  4. Amanda,

It has truly been a pleasure sharing this educational pathway with you!!!! I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your feedback, and posts!!! I hope that we can continue on the same path in the new year!!!
Also, thank you for sharing the quotes. I loved the one by Jean-Jacques Rousseau because I feel like we, parents, teachers, professionals, are all at fault for this. Many times we criticize children for simply being children, but I have to be honest because sometimes I think, whatever happened to the days where falling off of you bike was the biggest worry? Or when eating chocolate chip cookies and string cheese was the best! I miss my childhood so much, and I only hope that every child is given the opportunity to look back at his/her childhood and feel the same way! Thank you again for your support, and happy holidays!!! Good luck to you in the future!

  5. Amanda,

I have gained valuable knowledge from the information that has been provided by you. I have learned about some of your own personal experiences and encounters that were unique to you. I would like to thank you for sharing that information about German testing also. I love the three quotes that you posted for this assignment too. Thanks.

  6. Your posts have been very knowledgeable and I am grateful for the information you have shared with the class. I hope that you get the most out of your educational experiences with all of us and those you encounter in the future. As much as we seem to know just children there is always room to learn more. Good luck in your future.
