Getting to Know Your International Contacts—Part 1

For this assignment, I chose to contact two professionals in Ireland. While I have yet to hear back from anyone, I did talk to my cousin, who is an Early Childhood Educator in Ireland. Early Childhood Education in Ireland is very different than the United States. While the hopeful outcomes are the same, the approaches are quite different. Since Ireland joined the EU, their economy is not the same as it once was. Jobs are scarce and poverty is on the rise. While Ireland is a much smaller country than the United States, the early childhood field often faces the same issues. One of Ireland’s biggest issues is the cost of childcare. Just like the United States, families in Ireland are being forced to choose between quality childcare and saving money.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!!!

  1. Amanda,
I would love to be able to travel to Ireland! It's really neat that you have family that lives there. It is also unfortunate that families may have to put their children in substandard child care due to cost. Thanks for sharing and I hope that you are successful in hearing from your contacts!

  2. Amanda,
That is great to have a connection already across the globe. What are so things they do differently in Irlend? It is so discouraging to see that many families deal with the cost of childcare. I wish something could be done about this. Maybe each school can have a scholarship fund that is funded through the government so that this will not be an issue. I look forward to reading more about Early Childhood Development in Irelend.

  3. Amanda,
Thanks for sharing information about Ireland on St. Patrick's Day. That is unfortunate that they also have issued with high early childcare costs, that is something I feel very passionate about. I wonder if they have any similar programs such as HeadStart. Thank you for sharing!
